No, actually, I have been working so much that I barely had time to read my mail. I just got done with my morning reading. It is 9:11 a.m. as I write this paragraph. When I finish this I am going to bed, and must get up by 3:30 p.m. to be to work by 4:30.
There will be no links from this article since I don't have time to search for, or insert them, and besides, I'm too tired anyway.
Now before you get the wrong idea, I don't have a bad attitude, and I'm not complaining. In fact, I am really looking forward to my next check. If I work the scheduled 12 hour shift tonight, I will have 70 hours for the week. Combine that with the 61 for last week, and there's 51 hours overtime at time and a half -- On one check!
All I have to do now is get through the next three weeks, and then things will slow down so we can catch our breath. We did physical inventory (PI) this week, and a previously planned vacation left us one operator short. Because of the nature of the PI, we must have 24 hours coverage in operations. We did it ... with 2.5 people!
With the other operator coming back next week, things will improve a great deal, but with each of us getting 28 hours holiday scheduled makes for some pretty strange hours. An added bonus though is since we get the holidays off and still get the work done, we work almost the same number of hours, just longer shifts -- The holiday pay translates into overtime pay.
Before I came up with the brainstorm of just writing about why I am not writing this week, I was going to write something tomorrow night. You know how the holidays are; no rest at all. Visiting family and friends, family and friends coming to visit you. Tomorrow will be my only chance for catching up on some badly needed sleep, so that's exactly what I hope to do tomorrow, after reading my e-mail, newsgroups, and the reason I look forward to Sundays ... Dave Barry's weekly column in the Miami Herald; you'll have to get there from my home page since as I said before, I am too tired.
Next week I will write the story that I was planning for this week. I will make up for the total lack of links in this sleep deprived rambling, and I will not even procrastinate this time -- I promise.
Next week's topic will be how all of this here today, gone tomorrow technology adds up to apathy.
